General Guidelines
Do not send previously published works.
If any of your writing is accepted, Blueline assumes first North American serial rights; all other rights remain the writer's. Please let us know if you have any questions.
If your work is accepted, we’ll ask that you provide a short bio of about 150 words or fewer. Your bio will be included in our Contributors pages.
Please also provide us with a current mailing address. We’ll have your contributor’s copy mailed to you from our publisher, the Sheridan Press. Please let us know if your mailing address changes at any time.
Payment for acceptance is one copy. Let us know in advance, upon acceptance, if you’d like to purchase additional copies. We’ll mail additional copies, along with an invoice.
After acceptance, if your writing should be republished elsewhere (e.g., in a collection of your own or in an anthology), please let us know and acknowledge Blueline Magazine in the credits. We’re interested in where your writing might go, and we’ll list accomplishments on our website.
Submissions Procedures
Please submit your work only while our Submissions Window is open: from July 1st to November 30th. As soon as we can, we’ll acknowledge receiving your submission. After that, we’ll respond as quickly as we can with our decisions about acceptances and rejections.
Simultaneous submissions are acceptable if identified as such. Please notify the editors immediately if a simultaneous submission is placed elsewhere.
We strongly encourage writers to send us their work as Word document attachments to blueline@potsdam.edu. Please do not send PDFs. Please identify the genre of your submission in the subject line.
We’ll accept hard copies through the mail as well, but any accepted works will need to be transcribed into Word documents (we can help with this as needed). Please send any hard-copy submissions to:
The Editor / Blueline Magazine
120 Morey Hall / SUNY Potsdam

Please be patient! Blueline relies on a limited number of editors and interns every year.
We’ll reply to every submitter by mid-February.
